For the launch of a range of high-end mobile handsets from Nokia, London ad agency JWT approached me to design the inhabitants of Super Mobile Land - a world filled with colourful, diverse characters. I developed an art style inspired by vintage computer game sprite graphics whereby characters are grouped into eight distinct “species” identified by their pixel and colour count.
Every character has a unique personality and several reference specific device features and services such as music, gaming, maps, email, social networking, video, photos, sms/mms etc.
All characters began as a rough pencil sketch and evolved into their final look in Illustrator.
